Same behavior on my Thinkpad R50e. I can confirm this on a T60p. Mine is near the left side, currently.
Brightness keys do work however. Notification pops up when I press the brightness keys, but no change will be displayed.

I removed and reinstalled it but it made no difference. Dominic’s downgrade works well.
