I also enjoyed the uncertainty of just where this story was going, of what Ayesha would do, and the tension this created. Also Retur saw that the fire which shone through it rose from the crater of a volcano beyond. She swore that I should ever be her friend and his and dwell with them eternally, and I believe her. The thing that I did like was the Asian setting, I was expecting to find it poorly done but Haggard’s interpretation of Buddhism wasn’t that bad.

She is also a alchemist, she can turn iron into gold, and she will flood the global economy with her new gold, in effect destroying capitalism. However, I do not think The Return of She is as entrancing as those two books. Want to Read saving…. Were it not so, he, in his own way a very religious man, one who held, as I knew, strict opinions on such matters, would never have purposed to commit the wickedness of suicide.

Hesea reveals herself to be a bent and physically feeble old woman, but she declares that she is the reincarnation of Ayesha, and Atene is the reincarnation of Amenartas, who was Leo’s wife in his old life.

When Ayesha and Holly burst into the room where Leo is confined, they discover that Atene has realised her utter defeat and taken poison. Finally about the love, whether it be Leo and Ayesha’s or general in talking terms, it continues from the first book and never stops. Enraged, Ayesha declares that she will destroy Atene and rescue Leo.

The Return of She Professor Holly and Rehurn set out to look for the magical thhe, Ayesha, who they last encountered 20 years ago and go through many adventures and dangers to find her, upon which Ayesha and Leo are united in love until his tragic death. Yet this book improves drastically when Ayesha finally returns in all of her hagyard. Don’t a lot of the elements sound like deja vu from SHE? Now when is somebody going to release “She and Allan” again???

The Abbot tries to dissuade them from going on and warns them that, however beautiful, nothing is immortal, even if the Queen was born centuries ago in Ancient Egypt or remembers it from a past life. Apr 23, Prithika Ferdinand rated it it was amazing.

Also worth noting is that there is not as much violence in this book as in many of Rider Haggard’s others, and the events occur in high mountains somewhere North of Tibet. A weary, mourning Professor Holly returns to England, alone and emotionally exhausted, and finishes his memoirs with the hope that Ayesha and Leo have found peace and love at last. The Return of She.
